- There are only scattered Watershed records for Plantago eriopoda, with habitats ranging from sandy soil to meadows to agricultural fields; for instance, Villa Grove (Saguache Co, 1929), half a mile W of Del Norte (Rio Grande Co, 1939), Baca NWR (2006-2013). Ackerfield says the plant usually is found in alkaline places, the habitat of the most recent photorecord of the species,16 June 2019, near the Medano ranch, Alamosa Co (iNaturalist observation #27120946). The Watershed specimens may represent the only locations in the entire Rio Grande drainage, although BONAP shows Valencia Co, New Mexico. The USA distribution of redwool plantain is Wyoming, but there are scattered records from all Western states and from the northern Great Plains.
