- In the Watershed, Penstemon procerus is found in meadows and open spaces of montane and subalpine woods—but not on the east side of the Valley and no farther north than near the old Cochetopa pass on the west side. Except for one outlier in Taos Co, New Mexico, the occurrences from near La Manga pass in Conejos Co mark the SW corner of the USA distribution, which covers all states west of the Great Plains except for Arizona.
