- Griffin's penstemon is common in the Watershed, on both sides of the Valley, showing a preference for open meadows, where sometimes it grows in extensive patches. Hogan and Elliot (2022) collected only a few specimens from the North Cristos. The Lower Basin collections are from the San Luis Hills. It is found only in CO and NM. It is not collected yet from the Culebras but recorded from the northern Cristos of NM. In New Mexico it extends down the Rio Grande drainage only as far as Santa Fe Co. Throughout NW, say Allred et al (2020), the species is "not well-known."
