- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Colorado beardtongue has been found in two areas of the Watershed: in the south Sawatch Range west of Villa Grove (Saguache Co), and between Alamosa and Veta Pass (Costilla Co). The C. L. Porter record of 1935 (“near Alamosa”) is a bit of a puzzle, since that day he collected roadside in Archuleta and Conejos counties. Largely a Colorado Front Range and Plains plant, this penstemon would be endemic to Colorado save for a few collections from the northern border counties of New Mexico, including an "outlier" found in Rio Arriba Co (Allred et al. 2020).
