- Tall northern bog orchid is a higher elevation Platanthera—growing in seeps, fens, lake sides, and other wet habitats from montane to subalpine. In the Watershed Platanthera huronensis has been collected only from the southern San Juans. In New Mexico it follows the Rio Grande drainage, in mountains on both sides of the valley, as far as Otero Co (but no farther down stream in Texas). The USA distribution is mainly the Rocky Mountains up to the Canadian border, the Washington Cascades, and—true to its specific epithet—the Great Lakes on up into Maine.
