- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Of Piperia dilatata there is only one record—Ramaley and Gambill,1939—labeled “Conejos Canyon," "in a sedge marsh." This specimen was originally determined to be "Limnorchis viridiflora," but that was changed to Limnorchis dilatata by the University of Colorado Herbarium staff in 1993 (the changes of the genus to Platanthera and then Piperia are more recent). A few collections of the species come from the San Juan River drainage, but the main Colorado distribution is farther north. The USA population ranges through the Western states on up into Alaska, with scattered locations along the Great Lakes and on into Maine. The farthest the species has been found down the Rio Grande drainage is Rio Arriba and Taos counties of New Mexico, with very few collections.
