- Spotted coralroot has been recorded rather often from both sides of the Watershed, in lower-montane dense woods understory. There are no collections from the Culebras, but many from their continuation into New Mexico. Corallorhiza maculata follows the Rio Grande drainage south as far as Big Bend, Texas. Its USA distribution overlaps with that of Calypso bulbosa, but everywhere is more common. There is a western population (var. occidentalis) disjunct from the eastern population (var. mculata), distinguished by the shape of the middle lip lobe.
