- Locations and dates of Calypso orchid are often protected. In the Watershed, the flower is not unccommon, occurring on both sides of the Valley, in shaded, moist understory of mixed conifer woods. For instance, it has regularly been found on the south (heavily wooded) side of Big Meadows Reservoir (Mineral Co). In the USA this only species of its genus is found in the Central and Northern Rockies, Cascades, Great Lakes region, and northern New England. It follows the Rio Grande drainage halfway down New Mexico, where Allred et al (2020) call it "rather common."
