Comments
Campared to another yellow Watershed evening primrose, Oenothera elata, O. flava prefers a habitat that is drier, steeper, and higher in elevation). O. flava and seems especially to enjoy rocky slopes above streams. It also can be found in disturbed ground: beside trails and pond and reservoirs. There is only one record from the east side of the Valley (La Veta Pass)—but a number from the New Mexico Cristos. This is mainly a Great Basin, desert Southwest, and Rocky Mountain plant. It follows the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico to the border with Mexico, but no farther down stream.
