- In the Watershed Hornemann's willowherb has been most often found along wet tundra and subalpine slopes, meadows, streams, and springs, although it extends down into the montane. In the South San Juan Mountains Wilderness, Sharples (2017) found Epilobium hornemannii "common at middle elevations," that is around 10,000'. The one Basin location is Russell Lakes SWA (2000, 2016). There are no records from the Culebras. But there are a number from the continuation of the Cristos into New Mexico, which mark the southeast corner of the USA distribution (all Western states). The species does not extend farther down the Rio Grande drainage than Torrance Co, New Mexico.
