Comments
Tall willowherb prefers a lower elevation and a slightly drier habitat than E. anagallidifolium, sometimes growing in stabilized sand. In the Watershed, Epilobium brachycarpum has a more concentrated population on the west side than on the east. Farther west, in the San Juan drainage, there are many collections, but less than twenty from the Watershed, and none from the Culebras. There are, however, three collections from the Cristos in New Mexico, and according to BONAP the species follows the Rio Grande drainage down to the Mexican border. It is found in all states west of the Great Plains.
