- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Chamaenerion latifolium is the Watershed’s high-elevation fireweed, with relatively few collections (currently less than 10), a species that prefers steep banks of streams and rocky slopes. There are no records from the Cristos, nor any from New Mexico. The Conejos Co records (e.g., 10 miles ENE of Platoro) mark the southernmost point of the range of C. latifolium in the Rocky Mountains, a range that extends on up into Alaska.
