- New Mexico checkermallow is a native plant of wet montane meadows adaptable to a wide variety of other habitats, including urban, roadside, abd campground conditions. It ranges from basin to upper montane, and is present in all mountain regions of the valley. Despite Sidalcea neomexicana's specific epithet, it is present in all states west of the Great Plains except for Washington and Montana. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through all of New Mexico, but not farther down stream.
