- In the Watershed, twistedstalk is common on the west side of the Valley. It is probably present in the Cristos since it is collected heavily from the Cristos of New Mexico, from the Colorado border down to Santa Fe. The plant requires shade and mesic conditions, sometimes growing among thick tree-fall in the subalpine. In the USA Streptous amplexifolius occurs in the mountains west of the Great Plains, around the Great Lakes, and in New England, with adventive occurrences on south in the Appalachians. It is present in the Rio Grande drainage through Santa Fe Co, New Mexico, but not farther down stream.
