- So far for Scutellaria epilobiifolia there are only 8 Watershed records, all in mesic habitats such as wet swales, sloughs, and pond edges in or close to the Basin; e.g. Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge (2023, iNaturalist observation #176335628). One Great Sand Dunes record (1991, however, may have come from stabilized sand environment; and a recent occurrence is from near Cumbres pass (Aug 2020, Conejos Co, iNaturalist observation #131156689). The species is recorded from all USA states except from those of the South, but it follows the Rio Grande drainage only through Taos, Colfax, and Sandoval counties of New Mexico. Traditionally the Watershed plants have been called Scutellalria galericulata, but consistent differences, especially in the nutlets, have supported a new species name (see Weber & Wittmann 2012, and Allred et al. 2020).
