- Plains beebalm has not been found on the west side of the Watershed, but it is often collected from the foothills of the north Cristos, with one outlier a 2014 collection from the San Luis Hills SE of Manassa, in ravines of volcanic rock. The recent dates, 2021, are iNaturalist observations from near Crestone and the Great Sand Dunes. Note that Kelly J. Allred, working from New Mexico specimens, believes that Monarda pectinata is best understood as a variety of M. citriodora. True to its common name, M. pectinata is found in the Great Plains, but also in the Southwest. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico down to the Big Bend country of Texas.
