- In the Watershed, rough bugleweed is a basin plant, its natural habitat stream or lake side. It also takes advantage of disturbed ground such as pond shores, field edges, and irrigation ditches. In the USA Lycopus asper is a western and northern Great Plains plant, not as common or wide spread as L. americanus, a species that oddly has not been recorded from the Watershed (but probably will be some day). In New Mexico L. asper follows the Rio Grande drainage through into Socorro Co, but not farther down stream.
