- Comments
- So far in the Watershed collections of Rocky Mountain stargrass are confined to the south San Juans, just west of La Veta Pass, and the Upper Basin. Usually Sisyrinchium montanum is found in meadows by streams, as in two recent occurrences near the Conejos River (Mary E. McDonald, 2021; and Craig Martin, 2020, iNaturalist observation 49142678). Hobey Dixon records it near a basin pond east of Alamosa and on the Adams State College campus. Its preference is for montane, less heavily grazed meadows, which have helped maintain its presence in the Watershed. In New Mexico, there is a scattering of records from the Rio Grande drainage to the Mexican border. The USA distribution is the Rockies and the entire northern quarter of the nation.
