- Comments
- In the Watershed shortspike watermilfoil is occasionally collected from back-waters of rivers and ponds (natural and constructed). For instance, in 1986 Hobey Dixon collected it from the pond in Carroll Park in the town of Alamosa. The range in elevation of Myriophyllum sibiricum is substantial, from the Basin to small lakes in the south San Juans. The only record from the Cristos is fromt he Great Sand Dunes NPP (see Great Sand Dunes Plant Species 2005). The earliest record (1896) and latest record (2024) were from the waters of the Rio Grande—sometimes in backwaters and sometimes in observable current. The plant follows the Rio Grande into New Mexico at least as far as Española (Heil coll, 2008). It is found in all USA states except for Texas and the South.
