- Star gentian has been observed frequently all around the Watershed, usually found in its preferred habitat of wet, even marshy meadows bordering lakes and streams. It is distributed on down the Rio Grande drainage to nearly Santa Fe. It is the only species of Swertia in the USA, found scattered around the mountains of the states west of the Great Plains.
