Gentianopsis thermalis, a fringed gentian, is common in the Watershed, sometimes growing in large patches. It prefers wetter habitats than its cousin, G. barbellata, and occupies a wider range of vegetative zones. It is present in all mountain regions of the Valley except for the southern reach of the Sawatch Range (although it is often found in the Sawatch range of the Arkansas River drainage). Its main USA distribution is the Rocky Mountains, as well as southern Utah and northeast Nevada. It follows the Rio Grande drainage as far as Santa Fe Co, New Mexico.
