Comments
Gentianopsis barbellata, a fringed gentian, forms perennial populations, but they are local and few in the Watershed. Some locations are a ridge of California Peak in the north Cristos (1998), near South Zapata Creek in the north Cristos (2023, iNaturalist observation #195368362), near La Manga pass (1985), in the Wheeler Geological National Monument (1985), and on the trail to Crystal Lake near Elwood pass (2002). It has been most often found in alpine meadows. There are no collections from the Culebras, but the species is found, although not often, just south of the Colorado border in the Cristos of New Mexico. Its USA range is restricted to the Central and Southern Rockies—Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah—and, rarely, in northern Arizona.
