- Arctic gentian is common in the subalpine and tundra, in both the east and west mountain ranges of the Watershed (but so far not from the southern reach of the Sawatch Range). It is usually found in meadows and scree, but sometimes among trees in the subalpine. In New Mexico, it follows the Rio Grande drainage to Otero Co. It is the only species of Gentianodes in the USA, found in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico.
