- Comments
- In the Watershed, Linum australe is found on dry grassy slopes, but so far only from the west side of the Watershed: from Carnero Creek (Saguache Co) down to Terrace Reservoir and Fox Creek (Conejos Co). A recent occurrence was west of the Monte Vista NWP (Rio Grande Co, 1 July 2024), iNaturalist observation #226711643). In good years the flower is abundant locally. Other years it is rarely encountered. The USA distribution is centered in Arizona and New Mexico, with scattered locations in the Rocky Mountains up to the Canadian border. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the Big Bend country of Texas. Note that in the Watershed L. australe is distinguished by its yellow flowers, minutely hirsute lower stem, and connate styles.
