- Locations and dates are withheld for this possibly endangered species. Currently, records show 10 specimens from 3 Watershed counties: 7 from Saguache Co; 2 from Rio Grande Co; and 1 from Mineral Co. Even this may be an over-representation, due to subsequent extirpation or misidentification of Delphinium ramosum. The map in Beatty, Jennings, and Rawlinson (2004)—an exhaustive review of the plant in Colorado—shows only three locations in the Watershed, all in Saguache Co: one near the Continental Divide; one in the Cochetopa Hills west of Saguache; and one in the west slope of the north Cristos. (The authors may not have known about the Rio Grande records). The species is endemic to Colorado and New Mexico, where it has been collected, rarely, from Rio Grande drainage locations in Rio Arriba, Taos, Colfax, and Sandoval counties. Note that FNA, POWO, iNaturalist, and BONAP accept D. robustum as a legitimate species, while Ackerfield (2022) subsumes it under D. ramosum. Allred et al. (2020) point out that at anthesis D. robustum has leaves on the basal one-fifth of the stem, while D. ramosum does not. For more photographs and comment, click "yes" in the Annotation field below.
