- Red clover is an exotic that in the Watershed has thoroughly nativized into shrubland, montane woods, and subalpine mesic habitats, but it also thrives in ruderal habitats such as along trails and irrigation ditches. There are scattered collections of Trifolium pratense from both sides of the Valley but, surprisingly, the earliest collection date is 1972 (the earliest USA record is 1822, from Pennsylvania). It has been recorded from every USA state, and from the Rio Grande drainage as far as Doña Ana Co, New Mexico.
