- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. For the Watershed there are ten or more records of bigleaf lupine, all from the western side of the Valley, some from areas where Lupinus prunophilus has been found (e.g., the slopes of the San Juan mountains in Rio Grande Co north of the Rio Grande). Doubtless, nomenclature plays a role here, with experts still undecided whether L. polyphyllus is a variety of L. ammoophilus or L. prunophilus or a species on its own (see Ackerfield 2022, and Allred et al. 2020). Note that BONAP confines L. polyphyllus to the West coast. SEINet shows the species following the Rio Grande drainage no farther than Sandoval Co, New Mexico.
