Comments
Silvery lupine is the most widespread lupine in the Watershed, a native of open spaces from foothill to subalpine. It will also take advantage of ruderal habitats such as roadsides, ditches, and sides of fields and pastures. Except for the Pacific coast, Lupinus argenteus is present in nearly every county west of the Great Plains. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico almost to the Mexican border but no farther. Note that the L. argenteus complex is, well, complex, and contains many varieties or subspecies, treated differently by authorities. Allred et al. (2020), for instance, put L. caudatus and L. parviflorus within the species.
