- There is one Watershed voucher of honey locust, from Adams State University campus, correctly labeled but miscatalogued in SEINet under “Dalea leporina.” Doubtless the tree is more widespread, planted in other towns in the Valley. One is on a street side in Del Norte, photographed in June of 2015, with a few saplings growing nearby. In Colorado honey locust saplings usually spread not far from the parent. In the USA the species is native to the Great Plains and to the East. It is observed down the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico to west Texas. Allred et al. (2020) describe the species in New Mexico as "infrequently escaping or more commonly persisting around old buildings."
