- On both sides of the Valley, Laxmann's milkvetch is found in meadows and pinyon-juniper slopes of the foothills, and on up into open spaces in the montane. Astragalus laxmannii has only a few records from the Cristos of the Rio Grande drainage of northern New Mexico (with one occurrence as far south as Española). These mark the southernmost range of the flower in the USA. Its distribution is primarily the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains to the Canadian border. There is also an isolated population in the north Cascades.
