- Comments
- In May of one collecting season (2004), Jeanette Flaig, Sue Komarek, and Kurt Flaig collected 7 specimens of a plant they identified as Astragalus amphioxys. There are no other vouchers from the Watershed, and they may represent a seasonal outburst. The 2020 photorecord from Rio Grande Co supports the collections of Komarek and the Flaigs. But note that pods are needed for unambiguous determination, and this photorecord may show A. missouriensis, which has been (rarely) collected from the Watershed. Note also that BONAP (2022) and Ackerfield (2022) show A. amphioxys for Rio Grande Co, an thatd Allred et al. (2020) show Rio Arriba Co in New Mexico on the border with Colorado. In the USA this milkvetch is found in the Southwest, with occurrences following the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico to the Mexican border, but no farther. All these Rio Grande drainage specimens probably would belong to the A. amphioxys var. vespertinus.
