- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. For alpine wintergreen there is only one Watershed record, from Conejos Co, in conifer woods near Laguna Venada, about 18 miles NE of Cumbres Pass, at 10,300’ elev. The paucity of collections may reflect, in part, the difficulty in distinguishing this understory plant from the more common Vaccinium spp. in the field. This single Watershed location lies at the southeast corner of the USA distribution, along with a few collections from Taos and Santa Fe counties in New Mexico, both in the Rio Grande drainage.
