- In the Watershed, the dioecious shrub Sherpherdia canadensis is common in mixed conifer woods, on both sides of the Valley—much more common than silverleaf buffaloberry (S. argentea). There is one observation from the Culebras: Costilla Co, 3 km north of the New Mexico border, 2020 (iNaturalist photorecord). The species is probably more common in the Culebras, judging from New Mexico records. The USA range is the Rocky Mountains (down to about Santa Fe but no farther south), with a narrow fringe along the Canadian border and the Great Lakes.
