- In the Watershed, collections of alpine pearlwort are from both sides of the Valley but with only a couple from the east side. Sagina saginoides prefers mesic habitats: by streams, seeps and run-offs in the higher montane, subalpine, and alpine. Occasionally it will be found in subalpine aspen and spruce woods, sometimes in ruderal ground such as logging roads. The Watershed occurrences, along with more in north central New Mexico, occupy the SE corner of the USA distribution. Collections from Rio Arriba, Taos, and Santa Fe counties of New Mexico mark the southern extent of the flower's presence in the Rio Grande drainage.
