NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Watershed vouchers show only two locations, both in the south San Juans: Mineral Co, Lime Creek, south of Spar City (1981); and Rio Grande Co, 3.5 miles SW of South Fork (2004). The habitats were a montane forest clearing and a rocky slope by a jeep road. A recent photorecord (2023, iNaturalist observation #170757684) adds a third location and habitat, in stabilized-sand grassland, Sand Creek, 12.2 miles SSE of Crestone, Saguache Co). Ackerfield (2015) shows San Juan and Hinsdale counties, with no vouchers in SEINet. The Watershed occurrences lie on the east edge of the USA distribution, with occurrences in all states west of the Great Plains. The flower is widespread in the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico, running from Taos Co down to the border with Mexico and, rarely, into far west Texas (Culberson Co). Note that Pseudostellaria jamesiana and Stellaria longifolia are sometimes confused. Sticking to above-ground features, the two plants can readily be told apart by their pedicels: P. jamesiana's are stipulate-glandular, S. longifolia's are glabrous. Note that Xue et al. (2023) proposed a new genus for this species: Torreyostellaria. The new name would be Torreyostellaria jamesiana (Torrey) Gang Yao, B. Xue, and Z. Q. Song.
