- In the Watershed Paronychia pulvinata thrives in alpine habitat, where it has been vouchered from all mountain regions of the Watershed, both east and west. Occasionally it has been recorded from subalpine and high montane zones (e.g., a lower montane ridge in the Sawatch range (elev. 8,600’), and a rocky ridge near Osier Park in Conejos Co (elev. 9.843’). In the USA, the species has a range restricted to the Southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado, northern New Mexico, a bit of southern Wyoming, and eastern Utah. Note that a 2005 collection from the San Luis Hills (Costilla Co) was determined by William Weber as "Paronychia pulvinata." This may be part of what Hobey Dixon calls a “relict population” of "P. pulvinata" "on the valley floor in Costilla County" (2012 p. 62). Or it may be a misleading determination. See Paronychia sessiliflora.
