- NEED IN SITU PHOTOGRAPHS. In the Watershed, alpine meadow is the usual habitat for Sabulina rubella, but the species also can be found in dry montane and subalpine forest openings, on both sides of the Valley. It has not yet been reported from the Culebras but probably it grows there, since there are many collections from the Rio Grande Cristos of New Mexico. Beautiful sandwort is found in all USA states west of the Great Plains. It has been reported from the upper third of New Mexico, but follows the Rio Grande drainage no farther. Note that some authorities treat this species under the old genus of Minuartia; the authority for the new genus name is Dillenberger and Kadereit (2014)
