- For this native silverberry bush, there are only two Watershed vouchers: between Creede and Wagon Wheel Gap (Mineral Co, 1939), and 7.8 miles west of Antonito (Conejos Co, 2018, although the label says “Alamosa Co”). Photorecords document two other locations: along CR R, which marks the north limits of Russell Lakes SWA (Conejos Co, 2020), and 4.75 km southwest of Mogote (Conejos Co, 2022). In the Watershed Elaeagnus commutata was occasionally planted as a wind or snow break, but not so extensively as the exotic E. angustifolia (Russian Olive), which grew better in the Basin. The USA range of E. commutata is the northern Great Plains and Central and Southern Rockies (but not New Mexico).
