- In the Watershed hops is of the neomexicanus variety, which is native to the USA Southwest. It is characteristically found on rocky road and creek embankments, but also in irrigated meadows and on river banks. There are no recorded occurrences yet in the Sawatch range or the Culebras. It is to be expected at least in the latter, judging from its common presence in the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico. The species does not extend farther down the drainage into Texas. Note that there are quite a few herbarium vouchers from the Watershed labeled "Humulus americanus" or "Humulus lupulus subsp. americanus." These names are synonyms of Humulus lupulus var. lupuloides, a native USA variety distributed in the eastern part of the country.
