- In the Watershed, alpine Smelowskia is found on tundra or open subalpine slopes. Smelowskia americana has been collected only from the south San Juan mountains of the Watershed, and only as far north as Stony Pass. The Watershed lies at the southeast corner of the USA distribution, which covers in a scattered fashion all Western states except for California, Arizona, and New Mexico. It has not been recorded from New Mexico or Texas, so the Colorado observations are unique to the Rio Grande drainage..
